Description:
Both bisphenol A and pesticides are the common environmental estrogen disrupting chemicals widely used in industry and agriculture application. Limited research has been conducted to assess the health impacts of these chemicals due to difficulties in exposure assessment and multiple routes of exposure, despite the main route of entry to human body is through the intake of foods and beverages. This seminar aims to present relevant findings regarding the association between environmental exposure to bisphenol A and the risk of malignant and non-malignant health outcomes based on two funded research projects in China and Hong Kong. The impact of pesticides on fertility health will be presented based on a collaborative birth cohort study. These findings provided solid epidemiological evidence that chronic exposure to environmental bisphenol A and pesticides were associated with elevated risks of diverse health outcomes, thus contributes to the growing body of literature on the harmful effects of these environmental estrogen disrupting chemicals, providing additional evidence for removal of sources.
